The Day of Zen with Michael Mugaku Zimmerman is an opportunity for beginners to learn about meditation in a supportive atmosphere. For people familiar with sitting meditation (zazen), a Day of Zen will provide a space for deepening that practice. Meditation practice sitting in a chair is entirely acceptable. You will receive posture and breath instruction — the essence of Zen practice.
Participants will
- Engage in sitting and walking meditation.
- Listen to a Dharma talk and receive meditation instruction.
- Have the opportunity for an individual interview with the teacher (dokusan).
- Enjoy a healthy and delicious lunch we provide, with a vegetarian option.

Space is limited. We are unable to offer walk-in registration.
ORIENTATION AT 7:30 AM
If you are new to Zen, or would like a refresher on the Zendo forms, please arrive by 7:30 am for an orientation session. We’ll review the basic Zendo protocols and sitting instructions from 7:30-7:45 am.
Coffee, tea, and light breakfast items will be available at 7:45. The first sit starts at 8:00 am.

ARTSPACE PARKING
During the Day of Zen program, you may park in visitor spaces (40-59) at the front of the building or in the Macaroni Flats parking lot to the south. Towing/booting is strictly enforced at all times for reserved resident parking in the south lot and in the back of the building. Please pay attention to the signs to identify reserved spaces. Check-in with a greeter to be sure you park in an available space. There is also on-street parking on side streets.

The Online Spring Sesshin is a weeklong meditation intensive that runs concurrently with the Spring Sesshin in Torrey and is available to those who are not able to travel to Torrey. The program via Zoom includes Zazen and Services, Dokusan, community meetings and lunches, embodiment, and Dharma Talks. The Sesshin begins with an orientation session on Zoom at noon MT on Sunday, April 23, and ends with a closing online session at noon MT on Sunday, April 30.
Participants in the online Sesshin schedule their participation in advance, using a Practice Commitment form that we will provide in the week prior to the Sesshin. The online program requires you to sit at least one full 2-hour period per day in addition to the Dharma Talk. You are encouraged to participate in as much of the schedule as possible, creating a retreat experience in your home space.

The Dragon Heart Sangha gathers for a week of Zen practice in the beauty of the southern Utah Red Rock country and the quiet of the Torrey Zendo. The Sesshin includes Zazen and Services, Dokusan, community meetings, Samu (work-practice), outings, embodiment, and Dharma Talks. There will be a Jukai ceremony (Receiving the Precepts) on Saturday, April 29.
The Spring Sesshin in Torrey starts on Sunday, April 23 at 4:00 pm and ends at noon on Sunday, April 30. All participants commit to the full schedule. No late arrivals or early departures.
COVID
We encourage everyone attending to be vaccinated for COVID and up-to-date on boosters. We will assess conditions related to COVID and communicate the policy regarding COVID 3-4 weeks prior to the retreat.

You are warmly invited to join the Steelyard Sangha for Spring Sesshin in Salt Lake City, May 3-7. This is an urban retreat well suited to practitioners who may not be able to attend fully residential retreats.
SCHEDULE
Wed, May 3: 6:00 – 8:30 pm
Thu – Sat, May 4-6: 6:00 am – 6:00 pm
Sun, May 7: 6:00 am – 1:30 pm
CEREMONIES
The Shukke Tokudo ceremony (Monks’ ordination – Home Leaving) will be on Wednesday evening, at 7:00 pm. The Jukai ceremony (Receiving the Precepts) will be on Sunday at 12 noon.
MEALS
The Wednesday evening opening includes a social with light refreshments immediately following the Shukke Tokudo ceremony. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday we will provide breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Breakfast is included on Sunday morning.
COVID
We encourage everyone attending to be vaccinated for COVID and up-to-date on boosters. We will assess conditions related to COVID and communicate the testing policy regarding COVID 3-4 weeks prior to the retreat.

The Dragon Heart Sangha gathers for our summer Zen practice with Musho Roshi in the beauty of the southern Utah Red Rock country and the quiet of the Torrey Zendo. In 2023, there are two weeks of Sesshin.
- Sesshin Week 1, July 30 – August 6
- Sesshin Week 2, August 6 – 13
Each week of Sesshin includes Zazen and Services, Dokusan, community meetings, Samu (work-practice), outings, embodiment, and Dharma Talks. There will be a Jukai ceremony (Receiving the Precepts) on Saturday, August 12.
The Week 1 of Summer Sesshin in Torrey starts on Sunday, July 30 at 4:00 pm and ends at noon on Sunday, August 6. The second week begins at 4:00 pm on Sunday, August 6 and ends at noon on Sunday, August 13. You can participate in one week or both, entering only on the Sunday start dates. All participants commit to the full-week schedule. No late arrivals or early departures.
COVID
We encourage everyone attending to be vaccinated for COVID and up-to-date on boosters. We will assess conditions related to COVID and communicate the policy regarding COVID 3-4 weeks prior to the retreat.
