A 3-Day Retreat for Beginning or Deepening Zen Practice
with Lisa Genki Gibson & Brooke Teisui McNamara

ENTERING THE WAY is an opportunity to encounter the timeless and ever-present liberation of Zen practice, designed to support beginners and seasoned practitioners alike. This 3-day training will provide instruction and experience in the heart of Zen practice, Zazen: Sitting still, harmonizing body, mind, and breath, and experiencing our true nature.

Participants will also be invited to encounter the unifying qualities of Zen rituals, allowing the senses to come alive. Daily dharma talks, gentle embodiment practice sessions and inspiring community connection time will all support awakening of wisdom and compassion through body, mind, heart, and community.

What to expect: 

  • Practice sitting and walking meditation
  • Daily dharma talks from Lisa and Brooke 
  • Introduction to Zen rituals such as morning service
  • Opportunities for one-on-one meetings (Daisan) to clarify your practice and explore your questions
  • Wholehearted interpersonal connection with other participants through structured exercises and conversations
  • Gentle and enlivening embodiment practices
  • Healthy and delicious meals, with vegetarian options.

SCHOLARSHIPS/WORK-TRADE
Two Arrows Zen offers support to practitioners as part of our commitment to diversity and equity. Scholarship allowances, funded by generous members and donors, provide opportunities to enter Zen practice for young people under 30, and for People of Color.

Tuition reductions as work-trade opportunities are also available in case of financial need or to help offset international travel costs or negative currency exchange.

A limited number of work-trade allowances are available for those who can arrive early (by 10 am, Thursday, September 14) to assist with set up, help with shopping in Salt Lake City, and work extra shifts in the kitchen. Please CONTACT US to express your interest in work-trade.

Brooke Teisui McNamara, MFA, is a poet, teacher, and meditation instructor. She has been a Zen student of Diane Musho Hamilton Roshi since 2010, and before that studied and practiced with Dorothy S. Hunt, a spiritual teacher in the lineage of Adyashanti. Brooke has published two books of poems: Bury the Seed and Feed Your Vow, and has taught at Naropa University in Yoga Studies and CU Boulder in Dance. 

 

 

 

 

Lisa Genki Gibson has been a student of Diane Musho Hamilton Roshi since 2008. As a facilitator, coach, and systems change consultant, she is passionate about integrating insights from Zen practice and mindfulness traditions into the work of social change that embody care, justice, and sustainability.
