Spring Sesshin with Michael Mugaku Zimmerman Roshi

You are invited to join the Steelyard Sangha for Spring Sesshin in Salt Lake City, May 7- 11. This is an urban retreat well suited to practitioners who may not be able to attend fully residential retreats.

The program includes Zazen and Services, samu (work practice), Dharma talks, and an opportunity to meet with the teacher (Dokusan). In the afternoon, the schedule includes time for light exercise and embodiment sessions to support your sitting practice.

SCHEDULE
Wed, May 7: 5:30 – 7:30 pm 
Thu – Sat, May 8-10: 6:00 am – 6:00 pm
Sun, May 11: 6:00 am – 1:00 pm

CEREMONIES
On Wednesday evening, we will hold a Shukke Tokudo (Home Leaving) ceremony at which Nate Tōzan Dorsey will become a monk.
The Jukai ceremony (Receiving the Precepts) will be on Sunday at noon.

MEALS
The Wednesday evening opening includes a social with light refreshments. We will provide breakfast, lunch, and snacks on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Breakfast is included on Sunday morning.

The Online Spring Sesshin is a four-day meditation intensive that runs concurrently with the Spring Sesshin in Salt Lake City and is available to those who cannot travel. The program via Zoom includes Zazen and Services, Dokusan, embodiment, and Dharma Talks. The Sesshin begins with an evening session on Zoom at 6:30 pm MT on Wednesday, May 7, and ends with a closing online session on Sunday, May 11.

Participants in the online Sesshin schedule their participation in advance, using a Practice Commitment form we will provide the week before the Sesshin. The online program requires you to sit at least one full 2-hour period per day in addition to the Dharma Talk. You are encouraged to participate in as much of the schedule as possible, creating a retreat experience in your home space.
